6/18 UPDATE
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who reached out and put me in touch with the right folks. Thank you.
I'm awaiting final confirmation from Unicode.org but it appears a proposal for a set of racially-diverse handshake emoji has already been entered and accepted! This is amazing news and the outcome we hoped for. I’ve spoken with the incredible Jennifer Daniel, a Creative Director (from Google ‘s emoji program) who submitted the emoji application. To view it, click here.
Sadly, due to COVID19 the emojis won’t be available until 2022. Working on finding a way to expedite this. Because we need this now, not in two years.
I’ll continue to keep you posted as more information becomes available.
Best,
Astrid
COLLABORATION HAPPENS
BETWEEN ALL RACES
We have over 3,300 emojis designs. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
But the handshake emoji—the universal sign of unity and understanding—is poorly racially represented. Let’s fix that.
Sign the petition below to convince Apple, Google and Facebook to include the interracial handshake in their emoji library. And help us ensure everyone can shake hands as equals.
